14 January 2019, Banc D'Arguin, National Park Nature Reserve, Mauritania. The small fishing village Arkei is seen in the distance. Mr. Iveko Mohammed, has always had a passion for the environment and the Banc d'Arguin where he grew up. He has now been working as the deputy head of surveillance guards for 12 years, and he knows the park as his own backyard. THE PROJECT: The Biodiversity and Hydrocarbon Project aimed at integrating marine and coastal biodiversity in the policies and practices of the offshore oil and gas industry so that it does not degrade marine and coastal natural resources and ecosystems. Mauritania's marine and coastal environments support significant biological diversity. The Banc d'Arguin National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Banc d'Arguin is a nesting and breeding area for birds; each winter, it is home to the largest concentration of Palearctic migratory birds, and is a habitat for a large number of marine animals. https://open.undp.org/projects/00059643
